NLPSC joins Language Summit 2011 held at UP Baguio

The North Luzon Philippines State College, formerly CCC-University of Northern Philippines Branch, joined the language summit held at the University of the Philippines – Baguio last April 29 – 30, 2011.

The summit, coincided with the celebration of UPB’s 50th anniversary, was a gathering of language professionals and authorities, including policy-makers, administrators, critics, writers, teachers, and students, among others.

With the theme “Pagkilala sa Mga Wika ng Pilipinas: Tungo sa Pagsulong ng Ating Lahing Pamana”, the organizers said that the it aimed to establish a broad collaboration among individuals, groups and institutions for the advancement of languages and dialects in the Philippines, especially those that are under threat of dying and along with them the knowledge, traditions and history that are contained in the languages.
Hon. Marilou Leviste-Jacod, executive director of the Pambansang Komisyon para sa Kultura at mag Sining, was the Keynote Speaker in the plenary session during the opening day while Dr. Rolando Tolentino, Dean of the College of Mass Communication of UP Diliman, served as the plenary speaker during the second day where he lectured on “Estado ng mga wika sa iba’t ibang larangan”.

On the other hand, Mrs. Lolita Delgado Fansler, president of Manyan Heritage Center, lecture on “Mga wika ng Pilipinas sa senaryong global” in the afternoon of the second day’s plenary session. Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Dean Purificacion G. Delima of the College of Social Science and Chancellor Priscilla Supnet Macansantos of UP Baguio, gave their inspirational messages during the summit.

A cultural program was also held during the summit, where different cultural dances, songs and reading of selected poems composed by noted Filipino artist were presented. There were three (3) parallel sessions during the presentations of different research studies that tackled topics such as the Wika, Edukasyon at Teknolohiya; Wika, Kultura at Lipunan and; Estado ng Wika sa Iba’t ibang Larangan.

The institutions that participated in the two days conference are: North Luzon Philippines State College, UP Baguio, UP Diliman, UP Los BaƱos, Saint Louis University, Far Eastern University, University of the Cordilleras, University of San Carlos, Mariano Marcos State University, University of Hawaii at Manao, Nueva Vizcaya State University, Tarlac State University, Provincial Government of La Union, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Benguet State University, Leyte Normal University, University of Pangasinan, University of Northern Philippines, Angeles University Foundation and Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School.* (Ver Alviento)
