NOTICE OF SEARCH AND CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The NORTH LUZON PHILIPPINES STATE COLLEGE (NLPSC) Board of Trustees, formally and publicly announces that the SEARCH FOR THE PRESIDENCY is now open.

Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications –

1.      Not less than thirty-five (35) years old and not more than sixty-one (61) years old at the time of application for the position.

2.      A natural-born Filipino citizen.

3.      Holder of an earned doctorate degree from a reputable higher education institution.

4.      Proven track record as administrator preferably in the academe, whether in public or private HEIs, for at least five (5) years.

5.      For candidates who have not previously served as SUC President, he/she must not have been convicted of any administrative or of any crime involving moral turpitude, wherein the penalty is more than six (6) months.

6.      Incumbent Presidents of other SUCs, whose term is set to expire within the six (6) months period of the Search Process, shall be allowed to file/submit his/her application for this vacant president post.

Interested applicants must submit seven (7) sets/copies (one (1) set of original, and six (6) sets of certified photocopies) of the following documentary requirements –

1.      Formal Application Letter addressed to the CHED Chairperson:

5.      Original Copies of Certificates/Clearances from the following government agencies, obtained not more than three (3) months from the date of filing of the application, indicating that the applicant has no pending administrative and/or criminal case:

a.       Sandiganbayan

b.      Civil Service Commission (CSC)

c.       National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)

d.      Ombudsman (for government employees)

e.       Municipal/Regional Trial Court

f.       Institution/Company where the applicant is presently employed

6.      NSO-authenticated Birth Certificate

7.      Medical Certificate of Physical Fitness, including drug test clearance, issued by a government physician from an institution other than the same institution where the applicant is presently employed.

8.      Results of Neuro-psychiatric Examination conducted by a government physician from an institution other than the same institution where the applicant is presently employed.

9.      Duly accomplished CSC Form 212, notarized and made under oath.

An applicant who does not meet any of the abovementioned minimum qualifications and cannot submit supporting documents pertinent to these minimum qualifications shall be disqualified from the Search Process.

Deadline for submission of application documents shall be on December 23, 2011 (Friday), at 5:00p.m.

Educational Tour

On October 10, 2011, myself and two political science instructors of NLPSC Mr. Jonathan Casila and Miss Dhana Biteng accompanied our students in an educational tour in Malacañan, Senate and in the House of Representatives.

Professors and students of DMMMSU Open University headed by their Director Dr. Remedious Corpus and Dr. Jane Flores also joined us in that field trip.

Everybody enjoyed the tour and everyone, including myself of course, was very excited about it.But what makes me happier and self-fulfilled was when I saw my students enjoyed the tour.

After the tour, I asked my students to submit a reaction paper regarding their experience during the tour. And I would like to share their excitement in this space.

Here are the excerpts of some of their reactions:

Minerva G. Aquino.Still few days before our scheduled educational tour in Manila, I was so excited already. Every night I was thinking about it and I can’t wait to see in person President Noynoy Aquino (syempre Aquino ak met), the Senate and the Honorable Senators and the House of Representatives especially to meet and have a picture taking with our beloved Congressman Eric “Owen” Singsonas well as the other House members such as the fighting Congressman of Sarangani Manny Pacquio, the beautiful wife of actor Richard Gomez Congresswoman Lucy Torres, the former first lady now Congresswoman Imelda Marcos, former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and among others.

The schedule of our field trip was October 10 but as early as October 8, I was already preparing what to bring and I started to placemy clothes safely inside my bag. That’s how I was very excited about the tour………It was really an unforgettable day for me. That educational tour was just one day but I can say I experienced an extraordinary day in my life that time. I will never ever, ever forget that educational tour.

Romelyn G. Quibang. My experience during our educational tour in Malacañan, Senate and House of Representatives is worth remembering. We were accompanied by Mr. Gilbert Lacsina in Malacañan, a staff of President Noynoy Aquino and a student of Master in Developmental Administration in DMMMSU Open University in San Fernando, La Union. It was also Mr. Lacsina who arranged our tour in the Senate where we had the opportunity to attend to a hearing about issues on transportation headed by Senators Franklin Drilon and Ralph Recto. In the House of Representatives, we were accommodated by the staff of Abono Partylist Representative Pacoy Ortega and treated us the afternoon snacks. Ms. Karen Gagarin meanwhile, staff of Congressman Owen Singson, toured us inside Congress and guided us to the session hall of the House of Representatives. Before we left congress, Ms. Karen gave us pabaon aside from her sweet smile and a sincere handshake, a KFC packed dinner courtesy of our handsome and the approachable Congressman Eric “Owen” Singson.

I enjoyed so much and so with my friends and it was an opportunity to have great time with them. I can say I am very lucky because not everyone may have the opportunity to have a field trip these places.

Lady Vi April G. Camangeg. Going to field trip can be a fantastic way of learning on the part of the students.I consider it as an experience and adventure learning. As a political science student, I would say that our educational tour to Malacañan, Senate and House of Representatives was truly a relevant to our course. The tour was inspired us a lot and gave us an actual scenario on the theories that we are usually discussing and learning inside the classrooms.It gave us the opportunity to see historical places, actual events and to meet some noted personalities. It enriches our learning experience through exposures which were completely new to us…….

It was one of the most unforgettable and fun experience I ever had. The field was an experience that would last a lifetime. I learned a lot such as history of the places we visited and its historical significance to our country. The tour was also an opportunity for me to see Manila which was that first time I saw. I consider this educational tour as one of a kind which is an experience that I will never forget.

Sheryl T. Balio-an. When I was in my first in College, we were told by our instructor that we have a field trip in Manila, in Fort Santiago, in Emilio Aguinaldo’s residence in Cawit, Cavite and in the famous house of Dr. Jose Rizal. I did not joined the said field trip because my best friends did not joined and I thought might just be out of place without my friends.

However, my wish to go for an educational tour to Manila was fulfilled on October 10, 2011 when we went to Malacañan Palace, Senate and House of Representatives. It was my first time to go to manila that’s why I was so excited and very happy. While we are in the bus going to our destination, we sharedour baonwith my classmates, shared stories, laugh a lot and took pictures from many angles and views. I slept at about 2 o’clock in the morning and woke up 5 am. We stopped in a place in Bulacan to get our breakfast and were instructed to do our personal duties there and we will proceed to Malacañan from there.………… It was a tiresome one day field but I would say it was enjoyable and was indeed learning experienced.

Maria Cristina A. Valdez. I am very thankful for the educational tour because I was able to see Malacañan Palace, Senate and House of Representatives. I learned a lot during the tour and I was very happy especially when I saw Senator Tito Sotto of Eat Bulaga in the Senate. I wanted to see in person Senator Edgardo Angara who is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Arts and Culture and my favorite charismatic lady Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago but unfortunately we did not have the chance to see them. At any rate, the educational tour was very exciting one and I would say it was an opportunity for me because it was the first time that I went to Manila where I saw big buildings. I was also able to meet my sister who has been working in Manila for more than 6 years. I hope there would again field trip in Manila next semester.

DivinaGracia R. Hailar. It was a wonderful experience for me. The educational tour we had will be kept in my memories forever especially the places that we visited and the bonding that we have shared with my friend-classmates. It was really enjoyable field trip.*

NLPSC joins Language Summit 2011 held at UP Baguio

The North Luzon Philippines State College, formerly CCC-University of Northern Philippines Branch, joined the language summit held at the University of the Philippines – Baguio last April 29 – 30, 2011.

The summit, coincided with the celebration of UPB’s 50^th anniversary, was a gathering of language professionals and authorities, including policy-makers, administrators, critics, writers, teachers, and students, among others.

With the theme “Pagkilala sa Mga Wika ng Pilipinas: Tungo sa Pagsulong ng Ating Lahing Pamana”, the organizers said that the it aimed to establish a broad collaboration among individuals, groups and institutions for the advancement of languages and dialects in the Philippines, especially those that are under threat of dying and along with them the knowledge, traditions and history that are contained in the languages.
Hon. Marilou Leviste-Jacod, executive director of the Pambansang Komisyon para sa Kultura at mag Sining, was the Keynote Speaker in the plenary session during the opening day while Dr. Rolando Tolentino, Dean of the College of Mass Communication of UP Diliman, served as the plenary speaker during the second day where he lectured on “Estado ng mga wika sa iba’t ibang larangan”.

On the other hand, Mrs. Lolita Delgado Fansler, president of Manyan Heritage Center, lecture on “Mga wika ng Pilipinas sa senaryong global” in the afternoon of the second day’s plenary session. Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Dean Purificacion G. Delima of the College of Social Science and Chancellor Priscilla Supnet Macansantos of UP Baguio, gave their inspirational messages during the summit.

A cultural program was also held during the summit, where different cultural dances, songs and reading of selected poems composed by noted Filipino artist were presented. There were three (3) parallel sessions during the presentations of different research studies that tackled topics such as the Wika, Edukasyon at Teknolohiya; Wika, Kultura at Lipunan and; Estado ng Wika sa Iba’t ibang Larangan.

Rizal in the Minds of the Youths Today

In my Rizal 101 class, I asked my students to make a reaction paper on Rizal the Movie starred by Cesar Montano. The movie was of course centered on the life, works and writings of Dr. Jose Rizal. I told my students to use any language that they may freely and comfortably express their thoughts and ideas.

Sa natatanging pagganap ni Cesar Montano bilang si Rizal, nagmistulang nabuhay ang ating pambansang bayani. Naipamalas niya ang mga pangyayaring naganap bago pa man nagkaroon ng kalayaan ang ating bansa. Itinuturing ko si Cesar Montano bilang isang batikang actor dahil ginampanan niya ang isang napakahirap na papel sa larangan ng pag-arte, ang gumanap bilang si Dr. Jose Rizal. Sa kanyang pag-arte ipinamulat niya ang pagiging tapat at mapagmahal sa lupang tinubuan, sa pamilya, at sa relihiyon. Sa kanyang pagganap, nagising ang aking damdamin na dapat ay mas pahalagahan ng bawat Filipino ang bayan, kalayaan, watawat na simbolo ng dugo, luha’t pawis ng ating mga bayani para makamit ang minimithign kalayaan. After I watched the movie, I am convinced that Rizal was really a great person. I consider him as a great teacher and I must admit that I learned a lot of things about him from the movie as well as in our class discussions. I appreciate Rizal because of his being an inborn. I was intrinsically inspired and I am making a promise to myself that I will also make my own name just like him. I am Filipino who can prove that we are not inferior compare to other races. Rizal opens my world into reality. It taught me that there are times in our life that we need to choose – it’s either education or going away from your family, or education or going away from your native land and losing your love ones, or live with freedom or hold on at your principle in prisons. Above all, life is a matter of choice, and between the two evils, we should choose the less evil. In the midst of these situations, I never seen the weakness of Dr. Jose Rizal, instead, the act of sacrificing molded him to become stronger, braver and a fighter with principles of life.

            Rizal used his pen in awakening nationalism and patriotism to our countrymen. His observations, experiences, education and convictions matters a lot in spreading the truth and making a heroic act against the abusive Spaniards. His personality was admirable, imagine, despite of being exiled at Dapitan, he was able to make himself productive and accomplished a lot of things in serving the people and the community as a whole. He established a school where he taught the children free of charge and he rendered health services to the less fortunate ones.

            That is Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mecado Alonzo y Realonda who possessed all the characteristics that I am looking for a man because his personality perfectly suits my taste for an ideal man. Elizabeth Buis (BEED 3)

Our time on this earth

Engage yourself in such useful pursuits

Love and devotion

That which makes the mind soft and strong and strenuous, so it may keep itself in a balanced state even in the condition of pain – that which perpetually creates a pleasant feeling within, is called love.
Devotion is identical with love. The moment devotion is aroused, the love of the Supreme Consciousness comes.

No one is insignificant

Every age had its own flora and fauna and it disappeared with them.
Every tree and every creature of every age and stratum is created by the Divine.
None is unimportant.
What is happening in the universe is the gradual death of one created being and the gradual emergence of another, Therefore, whatever will come, it will only be the Divine coming in that form. No one is insignificant, no one is small, no one is low.

Infinite Love

You may be an ordinary creature – you may have to pass your days in the ups and downs of your worldly existence – still do not forget the Divine.
Keep all your desires inclined towards the Divine. Always keep yourselves merged thusly. Go deep into the mood of that Infinite Love.


Every being

Hating is not a courageous quality or a creditable tendency.
When every being is the Divine’s own creation, how can you hate anyone?
How is it possible that you meditate upon one form of the Infinite
and abuse another?


This ever changing world

The world is a changing phenomenon. Therefore, it is unwise to be attached to any object in the ever-changing world. The very name and form will undergo changes with the change in time and place. The child changes into youth, the youth into the old, and the old into the corpse.
But if wise people take every object of the world as the expression of the one and single Cosmic Consciousness, then on seeing the changes in the name and form of any particular object, they will not be affected by pain or pleasure.


The lily

Train yourself in the ideal of the lily, which blossoms in the mud and has to keep itself engaged in the struggle for existence day in and day out, parrying, bracing and fighting the shocks of muddy water and storms. And yet it does not forget the moon above.

 

Movement

No movement in this universe is possible without encountering opposition. Wherever there is movement, there is opposition also. The result of struggle against this opposition is termed progress. The more one desires to proceed vigorously to the goal, the more one is to struggle against the opposition.
Thus those who are adverse to struggle can never progress. They lag far behind, what to speak of progress. That’s why struggle is the essence of life. Those who abhor struggle, who misconstrue struggle as violence, have no place in the world.


Flaming Moral Purpose

You must have a flaming moral purpose so that greed, oppression and exploitation shrivel before the fire in you.


No One Is Low

No one is insignificant, no one is small, no one is low. Suppose there is a drunkard, a fallen man. You have no right to hate him. You talk with him, persuade him – if necessary scold him for his regression. All these efforts are alright, but you have no right to hate him.
Hating is not a courageous quality or a creditable tendency. When every being is His own creation, how can you hate anyone? How is it possible that you meditate upon one form of the Supreme and abuse another?


Good works

Whenever considering doing good works, do not hesitate – do them immediately. Whenever contemplating doing bad works, linger and delay, so that the thought of performing them will wither away from the mind.


There is One Moon

There is one moon, but its reflections, falling in countless puddles of water, appear as countless moons. No new moon is born. The same moon is being reflected in many receptacles. Similarly, the one and the same Supreme Consciousness is being manifested as limitless individual entities, in countless mental receptacles, in countless minds.

You are never alone or helpless. The force that guides the stars, guides you too.
